Robust Threadtails - Neoneura

neoneura.jpgThese are elongate damselflies with a slightly heavier body than the Slender Threadtails.  They may be confused with pond damsels because of their size and thoracic colorations. Males are generally brightly colored in combinations of black, yellow and orange.  Females are generally duller than their male counterparts and shorter bodied than the Slender Threadtails.

Tandem pairs can be observed hovering over slow moving water but also may be found far from shorelines perched on tree leaves.  Ovipositing is generally done on top of floating wood plants stems, logs, almost anything laying in the middle of the water.  While ovispositing the male is supported by the female.

Larvae occur mostly in lotic waters, and have been observed clinging to stones in streams.  Others have been seen in vegetation or coarse detritus in pools.
