Amberwings

Amberwings

genus: Perithemis

Amberwings

These bright little dragonflies are easily identified by their wing color. Wings are all orange-yellow in males, beautifully patterned in brown in females.  Amberwings have been said to resemble wasps in appearance.

These little dragonflies are weak fliers, and fly very low over the surface of the water.  They can be observed perching close to shorelines.

Amberwings inhabit ponds, slow streams, lakes and have a tendency to tolerate polluted waters.
