Rainpool Gliders

Rainpool Gliders

genus: Pantala

Rainpool Gliders

There are two species within the genus, both occur in North America.  Gliders are large, strong flying yellow orange to brownish dragonflies of very wide distribution. They are long-winged, with the wings being broad at the base and pointed toward the tip.  The face is pale with a red tint in fully mature males. The hind legs are long and strong. This genus is highly migratory and has a strong gliding flight.

Gliders can often be found in temporary habitats such as constructions or borrow pools over grassy areas, sand pits.
