This genus is the only found in North America. It is a medium sized
dragonfly, with a dark brown to black abdomen showing yellow dorsal stripes
running its entire length. In some mature males and females, the body
becomes entirely black with a grey prunosity at the base, or end of the
abdomen. The hind wing is much wider than the forewing. Wings are hyaline,
but may show slightly brown wingtips. The face is white with a rusty brown
forehead in females, and metallic green or dark blue in males. |
