With seven species occurring in North America, these
dragonflies are of medium size with non-metallic
brown coloration. The thorax is rather short and pattern-less except for
a yellow dot on each side. Their face is yellowish olive, with blackish hairs. The wings are clear, but may
appear tinged with saffron or yellow; in some species there may be a row of dots
present along the leading edge. These dragonflies fly at twilight, and are almost impossible to see in the
shadows. |

impossible to see in the shadows. When not flying at night, they spend most of their day perched
high in the trees around small sand-bottomed forest streams, or clear
rock-bottomed rivers. |
