genus: Phyllocycla
Dennis
Paulson describes them as moderately large clubtails with moderately expanded abdomen tip. Curved
forcepts-shaped appendages are characteristic of the male,
shared with greater forceptails. Extremely like genus
Aphylla, but it differs in S10 not have projecting lower
rear corners in males, females with no expansion of abdomen
(female Broad-striped Forceptail somewhat similar), and hind
femur with few and longer teeth. As with greater
forceptails, lesser foreceptails are diverse from Mexico
through much of South America."
Males perch on tree leaves and branches at waterside,
abdomen usually down at 45 degrees or even hanging
vertically. Both sexes in trees in woodland near breeding
sites.
Inhabits sandy, muddy rivers and streams.
