These are small clubtails with prominent clubs, resembling tiny Wide-tipped
Clubtails. In most species, the extent of yellow on the club is significant for
ID. The pattern of the lateral thoracic stripes and the presence of a facial line
may also help.
Most species are inhabitants of streams and rivers with
varied bottoms. A few may be found in ponds or lakes.
Gomphus is known for its unusual "roller coaster" flight and
is usually a dead give-a-way in field genus identification. |
