Spinylegs

Spinylegs

genus: Dromogomphus

Spinylegs

There are three known species of this genus in North America.  They are fairy large distinctly clubbed dragonflies with substantial yellow or green markings on the dorsal surfaces of the abdomen. Females clubs are less pronounced. Their head is proportionately small, with a green or yellow face and occiput.  Legs are long and spiny thus it's common name "Spinylegs"

Spinylegs can often be observed perched on rocks or vegetation along rocky and muddy streams and rivers in woodland areas.

Larvae of this genus are very long with a depressed abdomen.
