Seven species in North America, This medium sized clubtails are very pale in coloration. The thorax
is grayish green with bold frontal and shoulder stripes and poorly defined
lateral stripes. The abdomen is dark in coloration with poorly developed clubs
and present with yellow terminal appendages. Others may be reddish-brown
in coloration. They have a large head.
Females have narrow
abdomens and are our only clubtails with a spout-like ovipositor.
These clubtails are some of the few clubtails which are
capable of breeding in still water and generally do not perch in the
open. They can be found inhabiting ponds, lakes, and stagnant
river backwaters.
